Counterfeit Money and Fake Note Prevention (Public Training)

Fake note is widespread in the market. It has become global issues. General people need to have the proper knowledge regarding the currency features to identify the fake notes. Study shows very limited number of people has awareness on the security
features. If higher number of people gets knowledge on the subject matter, counterfeit currency circulation can be stopped forever from the market. Counterfeit banknotes have no value but it is possible that they may be used and may escape detection for some time. Thus, protect yourself and always check your banknotes when you receive them.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Security features of the currency.
  • Identification of the local currencies (Ringgit Malaysia)
  • Detection of the fake notes and original notes easily.

Part 1-Theory
⚫ `Security Features of the Banknote
Various security features have been incorporated into the Malaysia Ringgit banknote. It is important for you to be aware of some of these security features and be able to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit notes which are completely worthless.
⚫ What Do You Do If You Receive a Counterfeit Banknote?
Notify the police immediately if you have received counterfeit banknotes. Using or returning counterfeit banknotes is just as illegal as manufacturing it
⚫ Legal Action Against Counterfeiting in Malaysia
Section 489 Penal Code (Offence Relating to Currency Matter).
⚫ Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Guidelines on Handling of Suspected Counterfeit
Malaysian Currency Notes
This Guidelines set out:
1) The steps to be adhered by FIs and their Cash Handlers in handling suspected Counterfeit Malaysian Currency Notes deposited by members of public over the counter or discovered during cash processing; and

2)The requirements on recording and reporting of suspected Counterfeit Malaysian
Currency Notes by FIs to BNM.
